England middle-order batsman Ian Bell played a solid knock of 143 in the first innings of the second test in Antigua. England were tumbling at 34/3 when Bell came out to bat. Although the match was drawn, Bell insisted that his players need to think more differently to avoid another draw.
England middle-order batsman Ian Bell has said that his side needs to 'think out of the box' in order to avoid another draw in the second Test against the West Indies on a pitch which he is sure would remain docile.
Bell still expects England to walk away from the Caribbean with a series win even though the hosts are proving themselves to be anything but mediocre, but his side's failure to scalp 20 wickets on a docile pitch is playing on their minds and a brains trust that includes vice captain Bell would be trying to remember what they did in India that allowed them to win out there.
Bell said that they knew the kind of cricket they were going to be playing –attritional, going to go five days, adding that he certainly didn't turn up there expecting for the West Indies to roll over and this be an easy series, The Mirror reported.
Bell said that last time he was there he sat on the sidelines but they were long five-day Test matches, it was hard to get 20 wickets and he expected exactly the same. He admitted that they are going to have to think out of the box if this pitch has the same characteristics, which he is sure it would.
Bell claimed that they are going to have come up with a lot of different ideas now to get those 20 wickets. He said that they would be playing a similar style as if they were in India or the subcontinent, adding that there's talk of there being a bit more bounce there than in Antigua.
Bell said that they have to use the new ball well and get a few wickets early and insisted that they are going to have to change their plans.
The second Test between the West Indies and England would be held at the National Cricket Stadium in Granada, after the first Test between the two ended in a draw, the report added.
