Looks like the promotion of football in finally picking up pace in India. With the beginning of the Hero Indian Super League, the lesser known sport in the Indian subcontinent got some recognition. And now after two successful seasons, football fever is spreading across the nation.

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona legend, Luis Figo was in town earlier this month, for the launch of a new venture in football- Premier Futsal. India's leading cricketer, Virat Kohli was then named brand ambassador for this to connect more and more people with this sport.

Upon the launch, Figo stressed the importance of Futsal for youth development, saying “When I was young, I had a Futsal pitch behind my house so I used to play with my friends a lot. The one on one skills required in Futsal helped me in professional football as well. It’s not a new sport, it is a historic sport. We wish to give an opportunity to the fans to witness this.”

The connection between Virat Kohli and Gareth Bale is however, not new. Bale and Kohli have had a business relationship since December 2015, when both signed up for another business venture named- Sport Convo. Sport Convo is a multi platform sports social media hub. It's a platform where fellow fans of particular sport can engage in a conversation on live scores, breaking news, and fixtures.

Gareth Bale then took to his Twitter account to congratulate the pair of Kohli and Figo.

Bale and Kohli's venture, Sports Convo took to twitter to announce they were stakeholders in the Premier Futsal campaign.

Things, however, didn't start so smoothly for the Premier Futsal when AIFF and FIFA voiced opposition for the creation of the league, noting that it is not official. Despite this, the Associacion Mundial de Futsal (AMF) have backed it, with AMF vice-president Namdev Shirgaonkar saying “Both AMF and FAI are firmly behind Premier Futsal. I believe Premier Futsal will lead to development of talent at the grassroots level in the country and will boost the sport's future in India.”

Premier Futsal is a multinational tournament that will take place across 8 city-based franchisees in India from the July 15 to 24.
