Family matters: Shivnarine Chanderpaul and son score half-centuries in the same first-class match

Retired West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine have joined the likes of Walter Hadlee-Sir Richard Hadlee and Sunil Gavaskar-Rohan Gavaskar and here is the reason why.

The father and son duo scored the fifties in the same first-class match on Sunday playing for Guyana against Jamaica. 

Tagenarine opened for Guyana and gave a strong start to the team with the help of Shimron Hetymer. He scored 58 runs with the strike rate of 42.96. Shivnarine came in the third drop to score 57 runs to take the total of the home side to 262 against Jamaica's 255.

For Hadlees, it was Walter's last Test and his son, Richard, made his debut in the same match. For Gavaskars, Rohan's first first-class match was the last one for his legendary father Sunil.

Shivnarine, 42, has been one of the most prolific Test batsmen for the Caribbean team scoring 11,867 runs in 164 Tests. Tagenarine, 20, is quickly following in his father's footsteps. He has already played for West Indies U-19 team.
