DSK Shivajians FC announces the signing of their fourth foreign player in Serbian Centre Back Sasha Kolunija. The 29-year-old Kolunija has put pen to paper on a 2-year deal to complete DSK Shivajians’ foreign player quota.
Born in Travnik in present-day Bosnia, Sasha began his career with Serbian side FK Bežanija. Starting off in the Serbian top flight, he has spent most of his senior career in West Asia, playing in the Iranian and Kazakh leagues. His last assignment was with Kazakh side FC Akzhayik where he made 20 appearances over the course of the season.
Standing at a towering six feet four inches, the experienced center-back was pleased on arriving at the club and Sasha commented , “I'm very happy to have signed for DSK Shivajians. It's great to be here and I can't wait for the season to start. Once I spoke with the First Team Manager Dave Rogers about the project, I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of it. The facilities here are probably one of the best in Asia and I'm really enjoying training here. My experience in Kazakhstan was very good. It was a tough league and I learned a lot. I hope I can help in the development of young players here by sharing my experience.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the announcement, a pleased Dave Rogers, First Team Manager of the DSK Shivajians FC, commented,“I am delighted to be able to bring a player of Sasha's quality to DSK Shivajians. He is an outstanding defender and a real leader both on and off the pitch. Being a naturally left sided player, he will offer me the balance I like to have in my defence and is also a real presence physically. I went to watch Sasha play in Kazakhstan. After interacting with him and sharing my plans for DSK Shivajians and where I want to take the club, Sasha was convinced that we were the challenge he was looking for. Sasha's qualities as a human being and not just a footballer are what makes him such a coup for us to have here at DSK Shivajians. I have no doubts he will be a big success and fantastic influence in India.”
Sasha Kolunija has already joined the squad for pre-season at the DSK Dream City Football Fields.
