When armed with a red or white cherry, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth is like a grenade waiting to be hurled. Often misunderstood for wearing his heart on his sleeve, the Kerala speedster is happy that Ishant Sharma took the attack to the Sri Lankans and came up trumps. Many others are talking about the one-Test ban imposed by the International Cricket Council, but Sreesanth chooses to look at the positives.

"Look at any pacer playing any form of cricket and you will see that he wants to be aggressive. Being aggressive is in the DNA of a fast bowler. Without aggression, a pacer cannot be at his best. What is aggression? It's a quality that brings the best out of a pacer. When I got aggressive, I was misunderstood and criticised by everybody. I don't want to go into the past. But I must say I was delighted to see Virat Kohli support Ishant Sharma," Sreesanth told dna on Wednesday.

Sreesanth, who was recently cleared of all charges relating of spot-fixing, expressed happiness at the way Kohli handled his bowler. "Virat is naturally aggressive. I like his style. Indian cricket and world cricket need captains like him. What is fast bowling without aggression. As long as the players don't get physical or overly abusive, there is no need for anybody to punish them.

"This is sport. This is passion. This is about playing for your country. Tempers are bound to flare. Yes, we have to draw that line. And I don't think Ishant crossed that line. I want to congratulate him for picking up 200 Test wickets. It's a fantastic achievement and I must add that I have never seen bowl this well. He is on the rise and I am glad he has Virat to back him," added Sreesanth.

Kohli turned heads by saying that an angry pacer is a "captain's delight". Sreesanth said he was pleased to hear that. "That's what a fast bowler wants to hear. He wants the full backing of his captain. Just wait and watch what Ishant goes on to achieve now. I am very happy for him."

Asked if he had received this kind of encouragement from any captain at any level — domestic, international or IPL — Sreesanth said, "Of course, I can say that my captains always used me. They knew what a fired-up Sreesanth could do. At that point in time, when the move worked, everybody praised me. But everybody knows the kind of criticism I got later," said the 32-year-old, who has 87 wickets in Tests and 75 in ODIs.
