Ravichadran Ashwin, known for his sharp thinking both on the field and off it, put out the most hilarious post on social media on Thursday.

A lot has been said about Virat Kohli in the past month or so. The Australians have gone all-out to rattle the Indian skipper, with former cricketers attacking him for all possible reasons.  Kohli clearly got under the skins of the Aussies and they couldn't handle it.

From comparing the star Indian batsman to Donald Trump, to pitting him against animals in a poll, the Australian media and its former cricketers have shown the world who's truly 'classless'.

The peak of this pathetic tirade, though, was hit by Brad Hodge. The former Australian batsman and now head coach of the Indian Premier League franchise Gujarat Lions suggested that Kohli skipped the last Test in Dharamshala so that he could recuperate for the IPL which starts on April 5.

"You'd hope as a sportsman that he's seriously injured," Hodge had told Fox Sports.. "Because if you miss one game of Test match cricket and you're fronting up the next week for RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) versus whoever... you'd be pretty dirty if he didn't front up to a Test match and try and win a valuable series against Australia."

This comment didn't go down well with Indians, and Hodge faced a heavy backlash for it. Wanting to save his career in the cash-rich IPL, he issued an unconditional apology on Wednesday.

"I take this opportunity to apologise to the people of India, cricket fans, the Indian national cricket team and particularly Virat Kohli for my previous comments," wrote Hodge in a post on Twitter.

"My intention was never to harm, criticise or be derogatory toward anyone. They were intended to be light-hearted comments with the utmost respect to the Indian Premier League which I have thoroughly enjoyed through the years. The public and fans have every right to be upset, and the backlash I have received has certainly driven this home."

Looking at the obvious turn of events, India's ace all-rounder Ashwin took a sly dig at Hodge on Thursday. With the Australian taking such a dramatic U-turn, Ashwin couldn't help but look at the funny side of it.

"On a lighter note, from this year onwards 30th march will be remembered as world apology day," wrote Ashwin.

Here's his tweet:

Even though he didn't refer to anyone, it's quite obvious who the off-spinner is referring to. Well, one can't help but agree with what Ash has said. This has been one memorable apology!
