Abis Rizvi Champions Trophy: 19-year-old Mumbai student makes history with 67-ball double hundred in Twenty-20 game

Mumbai batsman Rudra Dhanday, 19, made it to the record books of Twenty20 cricket when he scored a 67-ball double hundred in an Mumbai University’s Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the Matunga Gymkhana ground on Thursday.

Mumbai batsman Rudra Dhanday, 19, made it to the record books of Twenty20 cricket when he scored a 67-ball double hundred in an Mumbai University’s Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the Matunga Gymkhana ground on Thursday.

The opener playing for Rizvi College in the Abis Rizvi Champions Trophy Super-8 College Cricket Tournament, organised by University of Mumbai and under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association, slammed 200 not out against P Dalmia College.

Opting to bat first, Rizvi opened with Danday. The opener went all out after a hapless attack on a true batting track. The youngster first reached the three-figure mark in just 39 balls before reaching his double ton in 67 balls, propelling his team to a mammoth 322 for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs.

Dandey’s hit 21 fours and 15 huge sixes in his double ton.

Dalmia College, in reply, were all out for 75 in 10.2 overs, giving Rizvi College an easy 247-run win.

“I am speechless. I can’t believe I did something like this,” said an excited Dhanday.

“It’s a perfect gift for my mom and dad who have their marriage anniversary tomorrow,” he added.

Apart from this three-figure mark, the Mumbai U-19 cricketer Dhanday has scored five centuries before in different T20 cricket.

Dhanday started his cricket under his father who works in customs. “I spoke to my dad who also is my coach and he is very happy with this effort. He asked me to carry on the good work as the Mumbai selection trials are around the corner."

So what did he have for breakfast? “Nothing, but a glass of milk as I had no time to have breakfast,” Dhanday, who idolizes Virender Sehwag said.

The highest score in an innings in professional cricket is held by Chris Gayle who had slammed 175 (66b) for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in Indian Premier League match in 2013.

Earlier this year, Mohit Ahlawat from Delhi became the first batsman for Delhi to score 300, however, it came in an official match and at a smaller ground.

Dhanday’s double ton albeit came on a ground where MCA selection trials tournament takes place.
