Move over Chris Gayle, the latest T20 sensation is Iraq Thomas. The  23-year-old Tobago batsman has grabbed the headlines by smashing a 21-ball century in the Tobago Cricket Association’s T20 tournament at Louis D’or on Sunday.

Representing Scraborough/Mason Hall, Thomas ended with an unbeaten 131 off 31 balls to help his side chase Speyside’s target of 152 in just eight overs. He reached the three figure mark in the 21st ball of his innings while garnering 15 sixes and five fours.

After this record-breaking feat, Thomas said, “I was just very happy to reach my first T20 century. I have played cricket for a while and to get this century in the shortest format left me very happy. I played for Queen’s Park in Trinidad, so coming into this tournament I had some good experience having played at that level in Trinidad.”

Gayle earlier had the record of fastest T20 ton which he smashed in just 30 balls against the now defunct Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Pune Warriors. AB de Villiers owns the record for the fastest ODI ton – which he scored off 31 balls against West Indies.
