IPL 8 auctions: Delhi snap up Yuvraj for Rs 16 crore, wrest Zaheer for Rs 4 crore

Sean Abbott, whose bouncer fatally hurt Phillip Hughes, was bought for Rs 1 crore by Bangalore. Kumar Sangakkara, Ross Taylor and Hashim Amla however, failed to find a buyer.

Discarded Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh was on Monday snapped up for a record Rs 16 crore by the Delhi Daredevils at the IPL 8 auctions in Mumbai.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, owned by Vijay Mallya, could not retain their marquee player. After Delhi Daredevils made a bid for Yuvraj at Rs 15 crore, RCB raised it to Rs 15.5 crore. But Delhi raised it to Rs 16 crore and RCB was not interested further, leading to Yuvraj joining Delhi. Yuvraj's base price was Rs 2 crores.

S Trivedi's hopes of participating in IPL 8 just died a quick death with the auctioneer's hammer.

Y Gowalker's base price is Rs 10 lakhs. He is picked up by Kings XI Punjab at that price. Preity Zinta looks very happy.

Vincent Gomez is brought forth for a price of Rs 10 lakhs, but to no avail. The auctioneer couldn't sell him off.

Paul Valthaty, who was once in KXIP and shot to fame courtesy a century, finds no bidders this time.

Varun Sood is up next for this game. He is unsold and has to spend IPL watching it on TV at home.

Aussie pacer Ben Hilfenhaus is up next. 1 crore is his base price. But he goes unsold.

Indian discard Zaheer Khan is looking for a bidder at Rs 1 crore. Zaheer was dropped from the Indian team a long while ago but he is probably India's best bowler since the turn of the century. At this auction however, he goes unsold.

Trundler Munaf Patel is up next at the same base price as Unadkat. But he is unsold.

Jaydev Unadkat is up next at Rs 50 lakh. Chennai opens the bid. Delhi take Unadkat at Rs 1.1 crores.

Trent Boult of NZ is up next at Rs 50 lakh as the base price. Mumbai Indians want him at the base price. RCB and Mumbai now bidding on the player. Mumbai have taken it up to 90 lakhs. After a massive bidding battle between Mumbai and RCB, Sunrisers have taken Trent Boult for Rs 3.8 crores!

Pankaj Singh is the next fast bowler. He goes unsold at the low base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Praveen Kumar is the first of the fast bowlers in the auction. Opening at Rs 50 lakh. Sunrisers bid at Rs 55 lakh. Chennai and SRH slug it out. The bid is up to 90 lakhs by Chennai, and now to Rs 1 crore. Kumar is finally sold to SRH for Rs 2.2 crores.

Darren Sammy of WI is up next at Rs 1 crore. Delhi bid Rs 1.1 crore. A bidding war is on and the bid has been raised to Rs 2.4 crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB get Sammy for Rs 2.8 crores.

Christopher Morris of NZ at Rs 50 lakh. Rajasthan Royals finally bid on him. Delhi raise the bid to Rs 55 lakh. Rajsthan and Delhi tussle and Delhi bid Rs 75 lakh. RR raise it 80 and Delhi to 85 lakhs. Delhi move it up until 95 lakh, and Rajasthan say 1 crore. The bidding continues in right earnest. Royals seem to have won with a bid of Rs 1.4 crores. Rajasthan finally snap up Morris for Rs 1.4 crores.

Unsold players can come back into the auction at a later stage.

Indian discard Irfan Pathan is next at Rs 1.5 crores. Silence around the place as no one seems to be ready to take Pathan. 'I see no bids' says the auctioneer and declares him unsold.

Ravi Bopara, 29, from England is up next with a base of Rs 1 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad open the bidding at the base price. He is finally sold at his base price to SRH.

T Dilshan of Sri Lanka is up next at Rs 1.5 crores. He goes unsold in the auction!

Marlon Samuels of the West Indies has a base price of Rs 1.5 crores. Nobody is willing to bid on him so he remains unsold.

Now the all rounders. James Neesham of NZ has a base price of Rs 30 lakh. Rajasthan say 35 L. Now the bid has increased to 50 lakh by KKR. KKR has now bought James Neesham at Rs 50 lakh.

Sri Lankan keeper KJ Perera, with a base price of RS 30 lakh is up next and he goes unsold.

Morne Van Wyk of South Africa, asking for Rs 30 lakh, also goes unsold. 

NZ keeper-batsman Luke Rinchi is up next for Rs 30 lakh. But he has no bidder so goes unsold.

Now the wicketkeeper auctions begin. Matthew Wade of Australia has a base price of Rs 1 crore, but he goes unsold.

Indian test batsm CK Pujara is next at a base price of Rs 1 crore.  But he goes unsold.

Retired Aussie batsman Mike Hussey, with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore is up next. CSK bid on him at the base price. He has been sold at the base price.

S Badrinath of India has a base price of Rs 30 lakhs. However, nobody seems to be initially interested in Badrinath. Finally, Mallya does, for Rs 30 lakh. Nobody else raises the bid, so Badrinath is sold to RCB for Rs 30 lakh.

Delhi  bought back spinner Amit Mishra for Rs 3.5 crores.

RCB managed to acquire Dinesh Karthik for Rs 10.5 crores (base price Rs 2 crores).

Another Indian, Test batsman Murali Vijay was purchased for Rs 3 crore (base price Rs 50 lakh) by IPL 7 runners-up Kings XI Punjab.

Meanwhile, Australian Aaron Finch went to the Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.2 crores and Kevin Pietersen was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 2 crores, which was his base price. England captain Eoin Morgan and New Zealander Kane Williamson were also purchased by the Hyderabad side for Rs 1.5 crores and Rs 60 lakhs respectively.

Incredibly, prolific South African batsman Hashim Amla and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara went unsold at the auction.

IPL 8 will commence on April 16, with the first match taking place between champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
