Razer is launching a chat app for Pokemon Go

Razer, the company behind some really great gaming hardware, is apparently capitalising on the Pokemon Go craze by launching a chat app.

RazerGo, as it’s being called will have a web version going online here at 7:30 am July 21 (IST). The Android and iOS apps will follow by July 25, once they receive approval from the respective stores.

RazerGo will be location-based, just like its Pokemon counterpart, letting users chat with other players within in a scalable radius of from 5 km/3 miles (local) to 100 km/60 miles (regional) to 1,000 km/600 miles (global). It’ll also allow you to engage in a public chat, talk to only members of your team, or privately whisper one other player. A feature also in the works is for chat room “beacons”, that a player can drop for an active chat room within an area around them.

While most users will be happy to learn of a chat app that might help them locate pokemon through other users, some might be worried about the potential trouble the new app spells. Multiplayer games on all platforms, when they include a form of communication with other players, become rife with negative behaviour like harassment, trolling, and general bad behaviour. However, the chat system could possible help with the somewhat lacking multiplayer aspect of Pokemon Go.

Sure, players meet in real life when hunting in the same areas, but a chat system could bring more finesse to teamwork. Players will now be able to efficiently coordinate with other members of their team, and perhaps even tactically take down gyms as a group. Possibilities of trash talking notwithstanding, a chat system for Pokemon GO could herald some very interesting team plays.
