The Mobile World Congress--one of the largest tech gatherings in the mobile world--is the event of choice for numerous phone brands to showcase their products. While it is still a way off--between 27 Feb and 2 March 2017--the recent news of Rajeev Suri, CEO of Nokia, charged with giving the keynote speech at this flagship event is hugely significant. This is one of the first news leaks of the event and there is bound to be more to follow. The other speakers included AT&T Entertainment Group CEO, John Stankey, Kaspersky Lab Chairman and CEO, Eugene Kaspersky and Niantic CEO, John Hanke.

The fact that Nokia’s head honcho is going to kick off the event points to numerous interesting possibilities--from their announcing to re-enter the mobile device market (albeit via their HMD global Finland subsidiary,) the next year should witness several smartphones as well as tablets from the brand. There have also been rumours surrounding their D1C device, which is more likely to be their 13.8 -inch tablet, as well as talk of two phones sporting a QHD (2560x1440) resolution and IP68 dust and water resistance.

It’s not like there is a dearth of products and brands in the mobile space these days--quite the contrary actually. Although the re-entry of an iconic brand into the segment should spur renewed excitement. Let’s wait and see.
