Singapore telecom operator Singtel has launched it's very own video streaming service in India, HOOQ. The service, launched today, is in a beta test run, and will be officially rolled out next month.

The service has already tied up with Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers Studios earlier this year, allowing the company to stream a collection of over 10,000 movies and television series to users. It will also offer loca content from it's pan-Asia network tie ups in India, China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Philippines. HOOQ has already launched its streaming services in the latter two countries.

For a subscription of Rs 199 per month, users will be able to stream, and in some cases download, movie and TV content, and will also be able to play downloaded movies while offline. HOOQ will also allow the same subscription to be used on five devices, with two devices able to use the service simultaneously. It's infrastructure has also reportedly been built to accomodate India's comparatively low bandwith speeds. Singtel will use Airtel India's carrier charges, (since they own a stake in the company) and can be paid via net banking, credit card, debit card, and Paytm.
