Ubisoft Pune is one of the only surviving international game development studios in India and is one of the places students that want to get into the industry aim for. For the unaware, Ubisoft is a leading developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment, with a rich portfolio of game franchises, including Assassin's Creed, Just Dance, Tom Clancy's video game series, Rayman and Far Cry. Ubisoft has several studios worldwide, out of which the Pune studio is the only one in India.

Ubisoft Pune focuses it's efforts around quality checking of games produced by other studios, collaborating with bigger studios on international titles and mobile game development. With Jean-Philippe Pieuchot moving to India as Managing Director, Pune studio, the future prospects look good. " We will continue to build the team's expertise even further in QC, development and mobile. We will constantly push boundaries to bring out the best from all the teams and the plan is to work on more exciting projects. The idea is to continue benefiting from cross-studio collaboration with other Ubisoft offices. Our another focus will be on career growth of the employees and talent development." said Pieuchot.

"Ubisoft is quite demanding in terms of quality, and entrusts Pune with QC, mobile and development work – it's not so much a question of studio size that is linked to quality, but the expertise the studio is growing for itself. " he added.

The studio is exclusively working on Care Bears: Belly Match, based on the Care Bears IP from American Greetings and will launch soon. "Currently I am really excited with the soft-launch of our F2P mobile game "Care Bears: Belly Match". The mobile team has done some amazing work and I am feeling quite optimistic regarding the release. Over the years Pune teams have developed a strong technical specialization on iOS, Android and WP on mobile, allowing them to port any game on multiples platforms and engines." said Pieuchot.

Commenting on the progress in terms of collaboration with the bigger studios, Pieuchot added "Ubisoft Pune has also been contributing on multiple fronts in the development of Just Dance titles: we work both on technical and artistic mandates for Just Dance games and our recent association with Just Dance 2016 has only added as a booster for the entire team. The studio also hosts one of the biggest Quality Control forces in the group close to 300 employees, providing support to the company's online games and AAA titles such as The Crew. The studio's portfolio includes Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell HD Trilogy for PSN, Prince of Persia Classic for iOS and Assassin's Creed Rearmed for iOS. Ubisoft Pune is proud to be the only fully integrated game studio in India."

For those who are curious about why Ubisoft picked Pune, Pieuchot explained "Education is the key to gaming industry; one of the reasons Pune is such a great place to be based because of all the possibilities & opportunities in this region. We are aware that Pune is considered as the "Oxford of the East" and so I cannot deny the fact that we do not face any difficulty in absorbing the right talents. Education is what will enable us to retain young talent, encourage new ideas in the industry, and also increase diversity. A career in video games is a real possibility nowadays – we need to offer this option to young, creative graduates and attract them to the industry. "

The progress India is making is no doubt amazing, but the lack of a successful AAA game coming from India, has left the country ignored by the larger game development community. Commenting on the same, Pieuchot added "Well I cannot put a date on it as the Indian development scene is still growing and work in progress which will take some time to realize. However we have complete faith in the talent pool and potential of our employees. We are really enthusiastic about the future as we have some exciting things coming up on our way. "

"We are continuously growing and to keep pace with the need of the time we even expanded our office space last month. We have good projects pouring in and so we are always in search for the right talent. It could be a game tester, a programmer, an artist or simply a game enthusiast. We will continue to build the studio's prestige and expertise. Our studio is constantly evolving in terms of projects. Most recent involvements includes soft-launch of our mobile F2P game Carebears and creation of the chroma room to contribute more closely on the Just Dance project. These are only few to name of. " Pieuchot concluded.
