HTC has introduced real-world accessories to pair with its Vive virtual reality headset. The peripherals are aimed at creating a more immersive and naturally familiar VR experience. The Vive Tracker allows real world objects or attachments like a gun-shaped controller -- developed by HTC -- to correspond to the virtual world. The gadget can be placed on everyday objects -- like a baseball bat or a tennis racket -- so that the Vive system can track the object.

HTC also announced a more comfortable headband for the Vive with a nifty add-on: the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap. This unit integrates a pair of headphones so a user can hear the VR world, eliminating the need to use an additional audio attachment with the headset. In accordance with its minimalistic approach, the company also announced a wireless adapter for extra comfort.

HTC hasn't disclosed the price of the Vive Tracker or the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap but both devices are expected to be launched sometime in the second quarter of 2017. The company is reportedly developing attachments for the Vive Tracker alongside eight partners.

The HTC Vive’s closest competitor is Facebook’s Oculus Rift. The devices are regarded by most as the best VR headsets available in the market, although they are out of reach for most consumers. For example, the $800 (approximately Rs 54,370) price tag for the HTC Vive doesn’t include the high-spec’d computer needed to separately drive the headset.
