In an endeavour to make Jaipur roads safe, 273 hi-tech cameras have been installed at various locations, mainly in the walled city area and on the JLN road.

The city administration today launched the pilot project at Jawaharlal Nehru road here, on the basis of which monitoring through a hi-tech traffic surveillance system will be done, with a control room at Yaadgar.

Following the move, five FIRs were lodged by the traffic police against five drivers today for rash driving at the JLN road.

The speed was recorded by the cameras installed at the JLN road under the surveillance system, DCP Traffic Haidar Ali Zaidi said.

The FIRs have been lodged under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC and Motor Vehicles Act.

"The surveillance system is being used to take action against the drivers who violate rules including jumping red light and driving at high speed," Zaidi said.
