Rare, vintage NASA photographs, that include the first picture ever taken from the Moon's surface, may fetch up to USD 9,000 each at an auction in the US.

The 446 lots will showcase the extraordinary photographic journey to the Moon and back as seen through the eyes of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts.

"While the astronauts' primary goal was to record their activities, they were inspired by what they witnessed, creating images that transcend documentation," said Skinner Auctioneers and Appraisers in the US.
Over five decades later, the photographs are appreciated for their artistic value as well as their historical and scientific significance, the auction house said.
The auction will start from October 31.
