Pune: Following the party bust involving 46 Mumbai-based law students in Lonavla, party revellers heading to the hill station are playing it safe.
Looking to avoid any legal tussles from residents, they have decided to cancel plans to party there over the weekend. On Thursday wee hours, the Lonavla city police arrested 46 law students who were caught drinking alcohol without permits and also had put on loud music. The girls were found in skimpy clothes at Gold valley bungalow in Lonavla on Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
Techie Girish Kumar (30), a resident of Hinjewadi, said, “This weekend we had planned to organise a bachelor’s party for our office colleague in Lonavla in a similar area.”
He added, “We too had decided on a masquerade theme but we had planned a decent party. However, we are scared that Lonavla city are on a vigil after the incident. We fear that even if we do not carry out any illegal activities, the police will visit the place. We do not want to spoil our party mood and hence we have cancelled our plans.”
He added that the group had taken liquor permits as they wanted to drink liquor but they are not sure if such bungalows are allowed to be rented out for such parties after yesterday’s incident.
“For mere fun, we do not want our names on police records and ruin our career. We have postponed our plan for a while,” he said.
Another youngster, Rahul Borade (29), a resident of Wanowrie, had a similar story to share.
“We had planned to have a get-together of our college friends at Lonavla. As many of them work in Mumbai, Lonavla is the best destination to travel between Pune and Mumbai. So we had planned to gather at a Lonavla cottage.”
According to him, “We scared that we will be penalised as we do not know whether the cottage has the permission for organising such parties. We have the permission to use a music system but we now realise that we need liquor and other permissions too. So we cancelled our meet and decided meeting at a restaurant.”
Meanwhile, Ganesh Shete, chief officer, Lonavala Municipal Council said, “The incident is shocking for us. There are 250 bungalows in the same locality.”
Shete added, “ I have directed my officials to check whether such bungalows are rented for parties or are there any tenants staying the area. They are charging Rs6,000 per day to Rs50,000 for two weeks and above. In two days, our officials have identified some 20 bungalows and the owners will be paying as per the provisions of commercial taxes.”
