The idea mushroomed after lawyer Bharat More’s client Sameer Reddy (name changed), who works as operation Manger in an IT company, moved a petition to court for granting him to celebrate Father’s Day with his 12-year-old son on Sunday between 4 pm to 10 pm.
“Sameer’s wife who is a software engineer too, has filed a divorce case in court against Sameer whom she suspects having illicit relationship. Sameer does not want to divorce his wife. Usually, he gets to meet his son only during vacations and not otherwise. He wanted to celebrate Father’s Day with his son and the court asked the counsellor. Finally we got court’s order in his favour,” said More. It was then the lawyers decided to find out if there were more such fathers who wanted to spend the day with their kids.
“I am a parent myself and I understand the emotions and the bond the kids have for their father. For them, the father is their hero and likewise, for fathers too, kids are the dearest. We discussed it with our colleagues who spoke to some 40 couples. We got positive responses from 15 couples,” said Ganesh Kawade, president of The Pune Family Court Lawyers’ Association.
Four year old boy Suraj (name changed) who will be meeting his father on Sunday wasn’t even aware of the significance of the day. “I am not aware what it means.
All I know that I will be meeting my father and we will be having fun in the park,” he said.
Another lawyer Gulab Gunjal said his clients having a seven-year-old daughter Anika (name changed), had to give in to their daughter’s requests.
“She came to know from her school friends about Sunday being the Father’s Day and was insisting she will meet her father. If I had told about this to her father he would have accused me of finding an excuse to meet him. But then my lawyer proposed it and he was ready. I am so happy for my daughter,” said the mother. The doting daughter is ecstatic and has already prepared a greeting card for her father. The father, too, was happy that he was going to spend some time with her.”I will be meeting her after seven months. I had last met her during Diwali. This is the best gift by my lawyer on Father’s Day,” he said.
