Pune: The mega-alliance of BJP - Shiv Sena and other parties has approached the court with a private criminal complaint against district collector Saurabh Rao for his statement that his name exists in the electoral roll of Pune and Nagpur.

It may be recalled that the collector and the district election officer for the Lok Sabha elections in Pune district had made this statement after BJP had approached the Election Commission in connection with repeated names of 1.08 lakh voters in Pune and Sangli electoral rolls.

After his statement was published, the mega-alliance through a private criminal complaint approached court of judicial magistrate (First Class) S R Nimse, who has admitted the plaint.

District collector Saurabh Rao, while addressing the media persons on Tuesday, had said that there was nothing earthshaking in repetition of names in electoral rolls since his own name is there in electoral rolls of Nagpur and Pune.

Vinayak Abhyankar, who is working for BJP legal cell, said, "Collector, who is the district election officer and returning officer for Pune Lok Sabha constituency, is chief of maintaining law and order in society. On the contrary, he himself is violating the norms. As per The Representation of the People Act, 1950 section 13, a person name must not be reflected in two distinct constituencies. If a person is enrolling his name in one constituency prior he must provide a declaration to remove his name from earlier constituency list. Rao is aware about it but he has neglected it. Our complaint is based on the new report as there is no where mentioned that Rao has applied for deleting his name."

On Wednesday, Abhyankar filed a private plaint before magistrate Nimse and the case was represented by Girish Shinde and Vijay Adhav. Magistrate Nimse has adjourned the matter till April 19 and kept it for verification purpose.
