In a city like Mumbai, space is always a crunch for people who want to organise smaller parties, conferences, gigs, pop-ups and exhibitions because either the venue is too big or too niche. This was exactly the problem that Xenia Hospitality as an event management company faced. And that is how it found Yiamas, which means 'cheers' in Greek.

A diamond in the rough

Zenia Master and her father had a hard time looking for a versatile property that they could acquire. Just when they thought that the city is out of places to book for celebrations, they thought of checking out a 120-year-old property in the midst of a plush area of a South Mumbai by-lane—Ballard Estate. “This place was a mess when we looked at it; there were literally holes in the balcony and a lot of work was needed. I thought it wouldn't work but my father, on the other hand, saw a lot of detailing and potential in this property. That's when we said cheers to it and decided to call it 'Yiamas',” recalls Zenia.

It is a state-of-the-art yet vintage experimental space, which presents itself as an empty canvas, free to viewers’ interpretation. A majestic wooden staircase leads one to the main entrance. The colonial windows allow sunlight to shine through the potted greenery in such a way that it amplifies the character of the venue. There are wooden beams that sit like a crown jewel against the white-washed roof. Corinthian-style columns christen the venue holding up the wooden beams giving the spectator something to stop and marvel at. The vintage balcony just ties the venue together with the wooden frame and the bougainvillea hanging from the roof gives one a sense of a Greek country villa.

A huge potential

This experimental place was launched just last month and has a lot of plans ahead of it. “We not only plan to host small parties or mehndi parties out here but on a few evenings, we also plan to have dinner nights for budding chefs, something like a Bohri Kitchen. This place has a capacity for up to 100 people at any given time and is perfect for small get-togethers.”

So, here's a space that gives you the opportunity to weave stories to compliment your memories. The newly-launched Yiamas in the heart of downtown is a good reason for you to wear your party hats. Say cheers to it!
