A 32-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a female sub-inspector inside Amboli police station when she wanted to register an FIR against a Navi Mumbai-based builder for allegedly molesting and cheating her to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.

The woman, an investment consultant and resident of Malad, befriended Vinay Aggrawal on Tinder, a dating application, around a month back. As per the FIR filed by the woman, Aggrawal tried to come close to her and promised to give her a flat at a cheap rate in a MHADA building. Aggrawal allegedly took Rs 10 lakhs from the woman as an advance to book the flat and later ordered jewellery from a showroom for the woman. After purchasing the jewellery, Aggrawal allegedly touched the woman inappropriately. When she demanded her money back, Aggrawal started ignoring her calls and messages.

"When I approached the police to register the complaint, Senior Inspector Bharat Gaikwad misbehaved with me and treated me like an accused and not as a complainant. After arguing with him for a while, police sub-inspector Mukta Phadtare assaulted me inside the police station. She dragged me by my hair and slapped me," said the complainant. "It was only when I gave them a threat of meeting the police commissioner that the Amboli police officers initiated the FIR registration. They made me wait at the police station till 1 am at night while giving VIP treatment to Aggrawal. I will meet the Commissioner of Police and demand the strictest action against the officer for assaulting me."

Bharat Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector, Amboli police station denied the allegations and said, "We have registered the complaint and the arrest will be made after adequate investigations." The Amboli police registered a case under section 354 (molestation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
