Woman delivers baby girl inside Mumbai local train at Dadar station

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Nirmala Suryavanshi and her colleagues took the lead and helped a pregnant woman deliver a baby safely aboard a local train at Dadar station late Wednesday evening around 10 pm.

According to RPF officials, local train no.TL-56 (Titwala to CST) arrived on platform number 3 at Dadar and a few female passengers rushed to platform number 6 to inform the on- duty head constable AM Gaikwad that a woman travelling in the coach reserved for handicapped people was experiencing labour pain.

"The RPF staff immediately informed on-duty doctor S Shaikh at the emergency medical  room on platform 6 on Dadar station and attended the above local with constable Nirmala Suryvanshi and Sunder Singh. The compartment was cleared of male passengers to enable the lady to deliver," said an RPF officer. 

The passenger, Ambivali resident Sultana Khatun, gave birth to a healthy girl child with the help of the on-duty doctor and the female staff of the RPF and the GRP. "Both mother and child were later sent to Sion hospital along with her husband Md. Irshad for further medical care", the officer added.
