Residents of Juhu have started an initiative called ForWard 69, to make their area garbage free. Resident associations have joined hands with the BMC and local municipal corporator, to start the zero waste campaign.

Over 30 residents from the ward 69 have volunteered to participate, dividing the ward in four segments. They will help local vendors and residential societies to manage their waste by segregating it at a local level. Wet waste will be turned into compost or biogas, dry waste will be collected by the BMC.

Renu Hansraj, municipal corporator said, "To cultivate the habit of waste segregation, local vendors and residential societies will be targeted first. Slum pockets like Nehru Nagar will be a challenge since it consists a major population of the ward. We will be providing composting bins to gaothons and wadis. We will help residents in segregating the waste and solve their doubts."

Mehjabeen Barwani, member of Juhu Welfare Beach Committee, said, "The BMC has already announced that they won't collect unsegregated waste from October 2. This is the right time to educate the residents and vendors. We are starting at the ground level to reach our zero garbage target. There are approximately 25 vegetable and fruit vendors in Juhu-JVPD Scheme. We are planning to provide them with a wet waste bin, and create a dumping point to install them where they can dump their wet waste. Book stalls and stationery vendors will be provided with a dry waste bin."
