After a statement made by Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) that efforts are being taken in all possible ways to bring back a Mumbai resident being illegally detained in Iraq, the wife of the detained withdrew her petition filed in the Bombay High Court seeking direction to the Ministry to get in touch with Iraqi government through diplomatic channels and get her husband back.

A division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Prakash Naik were informed by Additional Solicitor General, Anil Singh, about the status of the proceedings pending in Iraq, while hearing a petition filed by Sayyed Kainat, wife of Imran Gulam Hussain Sopariwala.

It was said "The Indian Embassy has been providing consular assistance to Sopariwala and trying to help him in every way possible. However, the Government of Netherlands has formally submitted an extradition request for Sopariwala, through diplomatic channels. Though, Government of India has no legal standing as per an extradition of Sopariwala from Iraq to Netherlands is concerned, the Indian Embassy in Baghdad has been making an all-out effort to assist him in getting out from this legal quandary."
