Unsung heroes: Police save lives risking their own

While thousands of people were stuck in traffic and flooding in the city on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall, the unsung heroes of Mumbai police saved several lives and shifted many to safe locations, while putting their own lives in danger.

Two police officers from Government Railway Police even rescued four women stuck in a train due to waterlogging between Sion and Matunga stations. The entire incident was caught on camera and has gone viral on social media. Celebrities as well as other citizens sung their praises.

In another incident, Police sub-inspector (PSI) Patel, attached with the Tilak Nagar Police, helped two children stuck in the flood at Amar Mahal Junction on Tuesday evenin by dropping them safely to their homes.

PSIs N Igade, Shirvate and Bodke and police constables Altaf Shaikh and Bobade, attached with Dahisar police saved the lives of as many as 100 people stranded at three different locations due to flooding of Dahisar river.

Igade and his subordinates endangered their lives to save fifteen persons stuck in Shanti Nagar area in the waters of overflowing Dahisar river. Igade ventured in water just below neck-level and saved those stranded.

PSI Bodke and his team rescued 40 persons stranded at the gavthan in Dahisar with water above knee-level.

"All our officers reache dout to help citizens. While a few showed bravery and saved lives, others helped provide shelter to people," said Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mumbai police spokesperson. , Rashmi Karandikar.
