Days after a traffic police constable at Malad was suspended for towing away a car in which a woman was breastfeeding her child, another incident of a clash between a traffic cop and a motorist came to the fore on Tuesday. The Mulund police on Monday registered a case against a 75-year-old man for allegedly getting his scooter removed from a towing van and taking it away without paying the fine.

Also, the motorist allegedly threatened the police constable and damaged the towing van. The accused has been identified as Sarpanch Singh, a resident of Mulund. According to the police, the incident took place around 10:30 am on Monday when Singh had come at NS Road near Mulund Railway station and had parked his scooter in a ‘No Parking’ zone. The police said the scooter was creating obstruction for traffic and it was parked illegally. Hence, it was towed by the police. On seeing the scooter being towed, Singh came to the police and asked them to hand over the scooter to him as he was ready to pay the fine. When the police denied him and explained the rules saying that it is not possible as it has already been towed. However, Singh did not budge and forcefully got the scooter down on the road and took it away without paying fine.

A video of the incident has also emerged, in which Singh can be seen taking the bike down from the towing van and throwing the boom of the towing van.

“He also threatened us and damaged the towing van. He did not pay the fine despite repeated requests. We later registered a case in Mulund police station,” said a traffic police officer.
