Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner chief cracks the whip on civic staffers

From WhatsApp to CCTV cameras, Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Nimbalkar is leaving no stone unturned to instill efficiency and timeliness in his colleagues at the Ulhasnagar civic office.

Nimbalkar, an IAS officer from batch 2007, took over as Commisioner of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) on September 22. Since then every morning at 6, he starts interacting with his to see that the city is cleaned.

"All the officials must report if their subordinates have cleaned areas assigned to them and are asked to send photos on WhatsApp," a senior official told DNA.

Not just that, Nimbalkar has also installed CCTV cameras on the premises of the civic headquarters to keep watch on latecomers, and keep check on any unwanted activities and elements. This also ensures officials are not taking sensitive files out without proper permission.

Those coming in late were in for a shock as the Commissioner asked to shut the doors and the latecomers were asked to report to him directly.

"I wanted to send out a message that indiscipline and reporting late to work will not be tolerated," Nimbalkar said.

Known for rampant illegal constructions, Nimbalkar wants to change the image for Ulhasnagar.

"I want to bring to an end to all illegal construction here. I want the city to be clean and I want citizens to pay their dues," Nimbalkar said.

Ulhasnagar residents owe over Rs 256 crore in property tax to the civic body and Nimbalkar said they will soon start getting 'love letters'.

"If they don't pay up, their properties will be sealed and auctioned off," Nimbalkar said.
