Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray has taken strict disciplinary action against more than 25 leaders and party workers for revolting against the party and contesting against Shiv Sena's official candidates.

Uddhav Thackeray said that he had no choice but to take disciplinary action even after repeated requests. "There is only one candidate per seat and we had to take tough decisions. There is nothing wrong in having aspirations, but pitting against the party's official candidates means you are splitting the vote and helping opponents at this crucial juncture. I requested them with folded hands. Many of them have withdrawn, but those who have not, will face action," Uddhav said.

It was clarified that the final decision will be endorsed by Uddhav. But disgruntled Sainiks chose to file their nominations as independent candidates when the party started declaring names. Uddhav had appealed at a party rally and asked them to retract. More than 35 rebels had filled forms, few of them have now withdrawn. However, the request from Uddhav did not appeal to a few of them as they chose to remain firm on their decision.
