A young civil engineer from Mumbra was duped of Rs1.07 lakh by two over the pretext of giving him admission in MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering.

In his complaint victim Farook Shaikh, 20, said the two accused are from Mumbai and he wasted a year by depending on them. The accused, Zahir Mukadam, and his colleague, Tausif, are on the run.

Around mid-2015, Shaikh, who had completed his civil engineering from a Thane-based college, wanted to do a post-graduation in civil engineering from MH Saboo Siddik college. When Shaikh had visited the college to meet the vice-principal with his family, a man waiting outside the room approached them. He claimed that he is the vice-principal's driver and he can easily get a confirmed seat, if they paid him some amount.

"In July, the accused told me that a re-examination would be conducted for me. It is six months now yet, I have not received admission as the accused kept me on hold. He said the documents were not getting processed and I have lost a year. We also have the recording of the accused accepting the money from us," said Shaikh.

Kausar Shaikh, the mother said the accused gave them several excuses for the delay. "A couple of months ago, we called the vice-principal's office and we were told that now it is impossible to get admission in any college across the country."

A police official said, "We have asked them to register a complaint against the accused with Mumbai police. But if they want to register here then we can and with zero number we will transfer the case to the police station under whose jurisdiction the college falls."
