Celebrating Buddha Purnima and Ambedkar Jayanti together on May 10, Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra said that just like currency in 20th century was known for Mahatma Gandhi's picture on the note, 21 century will be known for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar through BHIM app and challan that prime minister Narendra Modi launched a few months ago.

To celebrate Buddha Purnima and Ambedkar Jayanti, the state government on Wednesday organised 'World Peace Conference' at the Gateway of India.

Among those who attended the event were Devendra Fadnavis,  Kiren Rijiju, Ramdas Athawale. Rajkumar Badole, minister of social justice in Maharashtra government, Dilip Kamble, minister of state for social justice in state government, consul general of Thailand and Sri Lanka among other dignitaries.

"In 20th century they would ask how many Gandhi did you get. In 21st Century people will ask kiti Bhim midale (how many BHIM did you get)," emphasisng on the shift from Gandhi to Ambedkar.

He added, "Ambedkar was an economist and the first doctorate from India. This will be an apt thing to happen."

Fadnavis, echoing Athawale, said that world will have to decide between "Yuddha" and "Buddha". "We would have never spread across the world had it not been for Buddhism. Sword would have never made that happen.... Japan too developed so much only after accepting Buddhism," said Fadnavis.

"There should be peace everywhere. It should be between India and Pakistan too," said Athawale.

Speaking in his inimitable style, Athawale said, "Earlier there was only Buddhism. Everyone was Buddhist. Fadnavis was Buddhist, Pawar was Buddhist and so was everyone."

Rijiju said that India was known world over due to Buddhism. "In Thailand, the King said that they hoped that India continued to represent the world. Even Japan said the same thing. One who leads spiritually leads all. Now lotus has bloomed again and India is again becoming a leader with Modiji at the helms," said Rijiju.
