Parents of children enrolled at six Tree House playschool and nursery branches submitted a complaint to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police on Wednesday. The parents have requested the EOW to conduct an enquiry into the matter.

According to the complaint letter, the parents have already paid the fees for the academic year 2016-2017 in advance. The letter also states that some Tree House branches have been shut from December 14, without any prior intimation given to the parents.

Furthermore, the letter states that Tree House should give the parents their children's score cards and certificates for completion of the academic year, so that they do not face any problems while seeking admission elsewhere for the next academic year. The letter claims that some of the parents have made advance payments for the academic year 2017-2018 to the Tree House education bank account.

Vikas Pandey, who is the national media coordinator of Indian Youth Congress and a parent of a child at Tree House, Dahisar Maratha Colony, said: "We have mentioned in the complaint that if each parent from 70 centres in Mumbai have paid Rs 24,000 to Rs 35,000 to the institute, then the total money paid amounts to approximately Rs 22 crore. Hence, we have requested the EOW to make an inquiry and take appropriate action on whoever is responsible for this. It is not just the parents, but also the staff of Tree House has signed on the complaint letter we submitted to the EOW."

Another parent, who does not wish to be named, said, "Only franchises are working, all other branches are shut. Some teachers and staff gave us signatures, while others were afraid to get involved in a complaint to the EOW.

We have been assured by EOW that we will get a response."

EOW officials confirmed that a complaint letter related to Tree House playschool has been received by them. "We will not be able to comment on the issue now," said sub-inspector Ajay Kadam, who is looking into the matter.
