After a spate of injuries related to tree falling incidents in the city, Cuffe Parade residents as a precautionary measure will be inspecting dangerous trees in their neighbourhood along with tree authority officials of the BMC.

This kind of alertness among residents comes after a tragic incident of tree fall claimed the life of a former television anchor in Chembur a few days ago. "We have been reading about deaths related to trees falling in the city.

Prevention is always better than cure and hence we thought that we better have all the trees checked," said Parag Udani, a resident of Cuffe Parade and a member of Association of Colaba and Cuffe Parade Residents (ACCPR).

"It is terrible to read about such deaths. That is why we are making sure to inspect these trees," said Asha Dusija, another resident of the area. The resident said that trees were pruned recently but they still wanted to be cautious.

Reports state that trees pruned are not always balanced and at times tilt towards one side.

Though there has not been any injury or loss of lives in the area, residents want to re-look at a few trees as they appear to be tilted. "We are not experts and cannot say if they will fall or not. They are bending and may be strong enough but we just want the tree authority to look at the trees again," said Udani.

"We actually wanted a study commissioned on trees but it is too late now. We did have an inspection round before the monsoon but we will be having another one now because there have been some tree falling incidents and there was damage to property in two such cases," said Harshita Narwekar, corporator of the ward.
