The accommodation will be provided under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funded scheme Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP).
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) chief Sanjeev Jaiswal has promised to provide accommodation to to those who lost their homes and livelihood during the widening of Pokharan Road number 1.
The accommodation will be provided under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funded scheme Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP).
Sanjeev Jaiswal said,"We had a meeting with the concerned officials and decided that the affected people would be given proper accommodation so that they are aptly compensated for the loss."
The corporation officials will soon conduct a biometric survey to assess the number of affected families and after analyzing them, they will be compensated.
The officials added "Those who will pay 12.5 percent of the total cost of the house can even own it. Regarding shopkeepers, The TMC will pay 75% while the shopkeepers will have to pay 25% of the total cost. They will be given shops at selected locations in the city."
During the road widening at Pokharan, commercial establishments were demolished and the TMC now aims at rehabilitating the affected people.
Though the ongoing widening was much needed, shop owners who had their establishments since a decade opine that having a shop in other areas would affect their business as they had established themselves in this area.
The shopkeepers want to do something in the same area as they had an established client base.
Meanwhile, TMC has assured them saying it would consider their suggestions and take up the task accordingly. The data of the affected people has not been compiled yet.
"Action would be taken soon as many people have lost their livelihood and as soon as the process is completed, we will allot them houses and shops," said Jaiswal.
