A teacher who was duped to the tune of around Rs 36 lakh by a Nigerian national got even with the fraudster after she induced the accused to meet her and got him arrested in a police trap on Monday.

The arrested person has been identified as Okafor Chinenye Henry, 29, a resident of Lagos. Henry had been staying at Bipin Garden area in New Delhi for the past few months, said the police.

According to the police, the 49-year-old complainant is a resident of Chandanwadi. In her complaint, she had stated that one Fredrick Rafael, 41, who claimed to be a Scotland resident, had sent her a friend request on Facebook and soon they began chatting.

"In one of their conversations, the complainant told Rafael that she had met with an accident. Later, Rafael told her that he had sent a parcel of 40,000 pounds to Delhi international airport for her so that she can use it for her treatment," said an officer from LT Marg police station. Soon she started receiving calls from someone claiming to be an airport official, who demanded that she pay money to get her parcel cleared.

"The complainant was made to transfer around Rs 36 lakh to various bank accounts by the fraudsters on various pretexts. Later, when the demand to pay more money continued, the complainant got suspicious and approached the police on April 13. We could not get any leads from Rafael's Facebook profile, his mobile number or from the accounts to which the complainant transferred the money," said the officer.

Meanwhile, Rafael continued to stay in touch with the woman on Facebook. She convinced Rafael that she was in love with him and after a series of conversations and video calls, Rafael confided in her and revealed his real identity. The complainant then informed the police.

"She set up a honey trap and urged him to meet her in Mumbai on Monday. Meanwhile, she informed the police after which we laid a trap and apprehended Henry," said the officer.
