A 19-year-old bedridden Ghana teenager who met with a road accident traveled to Mumbai for cell therapy to be able to walk freely. Sylvanus sustained injuries in his spine and was hospitalised in Ghana immediately.

While he did not undergo surgery to repair the fracture and injuries, doctors in Ghana informed the family that he would not be able to stand or walk in the future as he had lost sensory perception in his hips and legs, and bladder control. A catheter was inserted to aid the passage and collection of urine. After being discharged from the hospital, he remained bedridden without any treatment for six months.

Speaking about his condition, Dr Pradeep Mahajan, Regenerative Medicine Researcher, Adigos Stem Cells, said, "The family heard about cell-based therapy in India. He was advised two sessions of cell-based therapy along with neuro-rehabilitation. In order to remove the scar tissue that formed in his spine in the region of injury, he underwent a spine surgery. He also underwent cell-based therapy to repair and regenerate the damage to the nerves and muscles in the spine."

Sylvanus said, "I was depressed after my accident as I was unable to stand or walk and lost perception in hips and legs. After the treatment, I am now able to stand and walk."

"Within a period of one month, the patient regained some sensory perception in his buttocks area. The patient is now able to lift himself up from sitting to standing position. Although he hasn't regained bladder control yet, he is able to appreciate some sensation of bladder fullness," added Dr Mahajan.
