Students collapses in classroom, dies

According to police, Shashank Agarwal, a Grade 12 student of Singapore International School (SIS) located in Kashimira area at Mira Road, suddenly collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

A 17-year-old student collapsed inside the classroom of an international school in Mira Road on Tuesday. He was rushed to Bhakti Vedanta hospital in Mira Road, but died while being treated.

The body has been sent for a postmortem at JJ hospital, and the Kashimira police is investigating further.

According to police, Shashank Agarwal, a Grade 12 student of Singapore International School (SIS) located in Kashimira area at Mira Road, suddenly collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

"The cause of death is not known. We have sent the body for postmortem to JJ hospital and are awaiting reports," said a Kashimira police officer.

Mahesh Patil, Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural said, "We have registered an accidental death report in this regard and are probing further. We will record the statements of the parents to ascertain if the student had any medical history."

"The SIS community is deeply saddened and shaken by the sudden demise this morning of Master Shashank Agarwal from Grade 12. He was an intelligent, diligent, helpful and highly motivated student who secured Honors and we felicitated him in an award ceremony on Sunday," said Kaisar Dopaishi, on behalf of SIS.

"In loving memory of Shashank, we are arranging a solemn gathering of the SIS community in school. The school will be closed on Wednesday. The Diwali Mela stands cancelled while the Prefects Investiture Ceremony is postponed till further notice. Please keep Shashank and his family and friends in your prayers, as it is hard to bear this unexpected loss. We will deeply miss him and we mourn his absence… his memory will forever live in our hearts," Dopaishi added.
