Students between class VI and VIII in state board schools will now be tested for Science as part of the baseline and summative assessment tests. As per a recent government resolution (GR) released by the state education department, schools have to test students between these standards for Science along with the existing two subjects- first language and Mathematics.

As per the GR, students between class III to VIII who come from vernacular mediums with English as their third language would now have to take tests for English along with their first language.

“As per the National Achievement survey, class VIII students from state schools have been found weak in Mathematics and Science. Hence it has been decided to include Science in these assessments. Also, understanding the importance of English in today’s time, students whose third language is English would be assessed in the language,” states the GR. Schools would now have to conduct a baseline exam and two summative assessments for each semester.
