Just before Bakri Eid, Samajwadi Party leader in the BMC claimed to have busted a racket at Deonar abattoir where the contractor was overcharging from the car owners, tempos and truck drivers which had come with animals. A complaint against the contractor has been lodged at Deonar Police Station.

Rais Shaikh said that the information of overcharging was received few days ago and he was trying to connect all the links. “Though there is designated space for both two wheelers and cars and also for trucks and tempos, no rule was being followed. It had become nuisance for the citizens going to Deonar. While every year this malpractice happens but this time we decided to take it head on and teach the contractor a lesson and bring this chapter to the end logically”, said Shaikh.

However, as the festival was approaching without wasting time, Shaikh decided to get first hand information. “We did a sting operation where we could actually establish that the contractor was indeed overcharging. While the charges for two wheelers was Rs13 and that of four wheeler was Rs35, for tempo and trucks parking was meant for free. But the contractor overcharged for all the vehicles. For cars which had goats were charged anywhere between Rs100 and Rs150 to even Rs500 which had more goats. And trucks and tempos were also charged for no reason”, said Shaikh.

Shaikh has written to the municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta about the incident. After his men did sting operation to establish the blatant corruption, Shaikh met the general manager of Deonar abattoir and handed over the letter appealing him to take the charge of the situation and control the malpractice.

Shaikh approached Deonar Police Station and submitted all the receipts which were obtained during sting operation and submitted a complaint, which was turned into FIR. Deonar Police Station registered complaint CR 213 under IPC 384.
