Society bundles up puppies, dumps in jungle

The Narpoli police booked three society members and three other persons for allegedly assaulting and bundling four stray puppies into a plastic bag and later dumping them in a jungle. A local resident reported the matter to the police after finding the CCTV camera footage from a nearby building.

According to Narpoli police, Deepali Mandavkar, 30, a resident of Cosmos in Kalher area of Bhiwandi saw three society officials bundling four puppies and dumping them in a jungle. The CCTV cameras captured the incident. She rushed to the jungle soon and rescued the puppies.

"We used to feed the stray dogs. The society members opposed to it and threatened to beat me up if this continues. When I learned about the incident, I looked for the puppies and found one of them dead," said Mandavkar.

"After this, I collected evidence and submitted it at the police station and got the case registered," said Mandavkar.

YS Kokate, Police Sub Inspector, Narpoli police station, said, "The society members were arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act."

"The society members claimed that the stray puppies were causing nuisance and barking loudly. The accused were later let off on bail," said Kokate.
