The Shahu Nagar police on Tuesday arrested a mason aged 22 from Dharavi for raping an eight-year-old girl. The accused was nabbed on the basis of the description provided to the cops by the minor.

According to the Shahu Nagar police, at around 9.30am on Tuesday, the girl was allegedly lured by the accused into a small room where he was carrying out some construction work.
Babaji Aavhad, senior police inspector, Shahu Nagar police said that the accused took advantage of nobody's presence in the room and allegedly raped the child. He added: "The arrested youth is a mason by profession and lives in the same locality as the girl. Both know each other."
After the alleged crime, the accused left the minor in the same area and fled. After reaching home, the girl narrated her ordeal to her mother and sister, who immediately approached the police and filed a case.
Senior PI Aavhad added: "The girl was able to give us a facial description and identity of the accused. Following that, we launched a manhunt for him and arrested him from the area."
The police immediately sent the minor for a medical test, and she is currently admitted in a government hospital for medical treatment. The girl lives in Shahu Nagar along with her parents, brother and sister.
"We are looking into the past antecedents of the accused, to see whether he has been involved in any such case previously," said Aavhad.
The accused has been booked under the IPC Section 376 (Punishment for rape), and Sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
