The Bangur Nagar police have arrested a 25-year-old man for cheating over 10 women through matrimonial websites and decamping with their cash and valuables. An Andhra Pradesh based divorcee registered a case with the police after she was cheated of Rs2 lakh by the accused, Firoz Shaikh.

According to the police, the accused is married and has an MBA degree. He was unemployed and in order to make money, registered on matrimonial sites with different identities. He would lure women into meeting him, after which he would decamp with their valuables.
A police officer said, "Shaikh said he wanted to marry the complainant. They met each other at a mall in Malad. He asked her to bring valuables and cash at the next meeting, and promised to marry her in court."
The complainant then went to meet him again with the cash and valuables. This time, Shaikh arrived in a car and asked her to keep the bag in the car, after which the duo went to have a coffee.
At the coffee shop, Shaikh excused himself and did not return. When the complainant began searching for him, she realised he had driven away with the money and valuables. She immediately approached the police, after which a case of cheating and theft was registered.
"The accused is a resident of Jogeshwari. We arrested him from Navi Mumbai. He has cheated several women in the past in a similar fashion. We have received three more complaints against him," said an officer with Bangur Nagar police.
