A 71-year-old man, who was for an evening walk on Sunday, was killed after he was hit by a speeding motorbike at Borivli.

The deceased has been identified as Nanalal Nemaji — a resident of Chikuwadi in Borivli. Borivli police have registered a case against the biker, identified as Varun Pise (19).

According to the police, Nemaji was on his routine walk on Gorai Road, opposite Mahatma Phule slums whereas Pise was on his way to Gorai on a Royal Enfield bike.

When Nemaji was about to cross the road, Pise suddenly applied brakes due to which he lost control of his vehicle and rammed it on Nemaji from behind. As the collision was strong, Nemaji flung several feet in the air and sustained fatal injuries on his head and legs, police said.

Due to the intense impact, Pise, who was riding the bike without helmet, also sustained head and leg injuries. The accused tried to flee from the spot but after sprinting to some distance he fell unconscious. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital where Nemaji was pronounced dead by the doctors, while Pise has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit ward of the hospital.

"We have seized the driving license of the accused and as soon as he will be discharged from the hospital we shall take him into custody. We have registered a case of causing death by negligence and rash driving against him," said an officer of Borivli police station.
