A 72 year old Tuberculosis patient was rushed to JJ hospital after she collapsed while standing in queue at Union Bank. Her son is a vegetable vendor and the change available to the lady was given to him thus leaving her with no choice but to stand for the second day in queue outside the bank.

Premvati Sahu, a resident of Naupada, was standing in line at the Duncan road branch when suddenly she collapsed. “She was standing in the queue a day before as well. Our token number was 250 but we didn’t receive any money because the cash was over in the branch. The rest of the people were sent away,” said Lalbahadur.

“The bank should have formed another queue to help her, a TB patient and a senior citizen, who had been standing in the scorching heat which must have lead to the stroke”, said Sahu.

“She gave me change so I could give it to my customers. But that left her with no money to cook food which is why she stood in queue to collect cash,” said Sahu.

On Friday, 70 year old Vishwas Vartak, a resident of Mulund also died after having suffered from a heart attack on Friday while standing in queue at Hari Om Nagar. The bank had no special queues for the senior citizens.
