Students of Cathedral and John Cannon Senior school, organised their second annual charity music concert to raise funds for underprivileged children associated with Salaam Bombay Foundation. 'WE Concert' was held at Blue Frog, Lower Parel on Thursday, and had live jazz, pop and contemporary music performances.

'WE Concert' is the brainchild of the 13-year-old Mrinalini Somani, who got her friends together to help underprivileged children. "I never thought it'll become so big. I just wanted a small concert with which I could help the children. I had learned a lot by being paired with a girl from Salaam Bombay, during a school exercise. I realised we had the same interest. I'm lucky to have such a privileged life," said Somani.

Around 25 to 30 kids practised for three months and performed at the concert along with the children from Salaam Bombay academy. "The Harvard School of Public Health, came to study our module and found that 90% of children associated with us, commit to finishing school. Children out here are highly confident and ambitious," said Aditi Parikh, head of Communications and PR, Salaam Bombay Foundation.

Dipali Kamble (16), and Rani Shaikh(14), study at Motilal Nagar school in Goregaon, and performed at the concert. Both have been a part of Salaam Bombay foundation for more than three years. "They used to come to our school to tell us about the effects of tobacco. Later, they saw our dance at a school function and liked it. They asked us to learn the dance with them and look where we are now. We really tried hard to come here and perform at such a big stage. We know, if we work hard we can also sing like them (Cathedral and John Cannon students) too. We want to dance with Shiamak Davar and maybe teach dance to other children when we start going to college," said Dipali.

National Award winning actress Vidya Balan, who was present at the event to show her support. "They are children and doing this for other underprivileged children. They have performed really well and done a wonderful job. These kids are changing lives," she said.
