The locked house of noted writer and humorist late PL Deshpande was broken into by a gang of unidentified burglars on Monday. However, the burglars were disappointed as all they found in the house was the author’s treasure of books. Incidentally, the same house was burgled around five years ago. The burglars had to leave empty-handed on that occassion as well.
The incident took place at Malati Madhav apartment situated on Bhandarkar Road in Deccan area at around 2 am on Monday, but according to the residents of the building when they went to the police to lodge the complaint, the police officers did not pay much attention. It was only after the writer’s relatives came down to Pune from Mumbai and contacted senior police officers, the police took cognisance of the incident.
The late writer, popularly known as Pu La, has two flats in the apartment and both the flats were locked.
