The Thane police department has revealed that their primary motive in the Rs5-crore dacoity that took place at a cash management firm in Thane is to recover the entire booty. This, the cops said, would be the first such instance in Maharashtra that such a huge amount of cash is recovered. The cops have also revealed that they have a 'positive' link in the case and will soon send the dacoits behind the bars.

On Wednesday, dna had reported about the possible role of insiders in the dacoity at Checkmate Cash Management Services Pvt Ltd's office at Teen Haath Naka in Thane. Seven dacoits armed with weapons had barged into the firm early on Monday morning and decamped with cash worth Rs5 crore, which was the amount mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR). It is possible that the total looted amount might hit Rs9.12 crore.

"We have a positive link in the case, which would lead us to the dacoits, and it's been confirmed that an insider was involved in the dacoity as the dacoits knew all about the different locations in the premises and the cash movement therein," said Sukhada Narkar, PRO, Thane police department.

"Our main focus is to recover the entire cash that has been stolen from the firm and our teams are working tirelessly to send the perpetrators of the crime behind bars," Narkar said.

If the Thane police department manages to recover the entire cash from the dacoits, it would turn out to be one of the biggest recoveries ever made by the Thane police in the state of Maharashtra. Senior police officers from the directorate general of police are keeping a close watch on the investigations, since this is one of the biggest dacoities in the history of the state.

A case under Sections 395 (dacoity), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered at Wagle Estate police station.
