Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar : Tech-savvy leader with academic background

Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, the 29th descendant of the royal family from Faltan, is a voracious reader, an acclaimed cricketer and a man of vision. He is the person who was instrumental in giving birth to Krishna Valley Development Corporation in Maharashtra. Ramraje is known as a cultured, soft-spoken and tech-savvy leader who always strived for bringing water to drought-prone areas in Satara district.

Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, the 29th descendant of the royal family from Faltan, is a voracious reader, an acclaimed cricketer and a man of vision. He is the person who was instrumental in giving birth to Krishna Valley Development Corporation in Maharashtra. Ramraje is known as a cultured, soft-spoken and tech-savvy leader who always strived for bringing water to drought-prone areas in Satara district.

Ramraje did his MSc in physics as well as in chemistry from Garware College and Fergusson College in Pune. Later, he did post graduation in law. He worked as a lecturer at Symbiosis Law College and the prestigious ILS Law College in Pune. During his college days, Ramraje made his mark in cricket as an able all-rounder.

He shifted to Faltan and became the chairman of Faltan Education Society. However, he continued teaching at the Law College at Faltan. He joined politics in 1991 and became the chairman of the municipal council. He contested the assembly election and became an independent MLA in 1995. When Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi became the chief minister, it was Ramraje who supported the government on the condition of bringing water to drought-prone areas in his district. In those days, the agitation over the Urmodi dam was intense and was at its peak.

Ramraje was made the vice-chairman of Krishna Valley Development Corporation with the status of a minister of state. In 1999, when Sharad Pawar started his own Nationalist Congress Party, Ramraje joined it and became the minister of state for revenue. In 2004, he became a cabinet minister with the charge of Krishna Valley Development Corporation and also the guardian minister for Satara district. He was made deputy chairman of the state planning commission in 2013.

After his constituency Faltan became reserved, he was elected to the Upper House.

Of his grandfather
Malojiraje Naik-Nimbalkar, grandfather of Ramraje, was the minister in Morarji Desai's cabinet and had the portfolios of PWD and irrigation with him. The construction work of the present day Mantralaya building was executed during Malojiraje's tenure as the PWD minister.

Greetings from leaders
Congratulating Ramraje, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and leaders from all the parties expressed confidence that Ramraje, with his able leadership, would hold high the democratic values and stature of the Upper House to reach new heights. Ramraje said that being tech-savy he would like to see both the Houses of state assembly become paper-less as early as possible.
