The inauguration of the new selfie point in the middle of the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) area could prove to be a major traffic headache in days to come.

The free left turn near the selfie point will witness obstruction for the free flow of traffic as the tourists visiting the new viewing gallery will inadvertently bump into vehicles causing traffic jams. BMC officials are making arrangements to smoothen traffic in the area.

On Thursday, Yuva Sena President Aditya Thackeray and Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar along with Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, Maharashtra's Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam, BJP MLA Raj Purohit were present at the inaugural function of viewing gallery, which was completed in three months.

The viewing gallery, which is promoted as a selfie point, was an instant hit among foreign tourists.

Kiran Dighavkar Assistant Commissioner of A Ward said traffic rearrangements had to be done.

"The flow of tourists visiting the viewing gallery will now increase on this part of the road. This could lea to major accidents. The plan is to close the existing free left turn from Mahapalika Marg towards DN Road, making it pedestrians friendly," said Dighavkar, citing that there are major changes on the anvil once the pedestrian plaza will be created after the Bombay Gymkhana land is acquired by the BMC.
