Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) students of RZ Shah college in Mulund are an upset lot. While, they have alleged, they have not been given receipts despite paying admission fees for the second year, the students are also irked that they have been asked to give an undertaking that they will complete their three-year course in the college.

One of the students said, "The college has asked us to sign an undertaking that we won't leave the college in between. This is completely inappropriate."

"Most of the students were willing to leave the college this year, but the authorities just declared the result and gave us admission forms to fill. They have not even given us fee receipt for second year," said another.

Registrar of the University of Mumbai Dr MA Khan said, "If the college is taking fees and not issuing receipts immediately, it's wrong and will not be allowed. However, the reason behind taking the undertaking is to maintain students' attendance. Many a times, students look to change college in their desire to go to a more reputed one, which also is not right."

RZ Shah college principal Dr Susy Kuriakose, however, refuted the students allegation. "They are asked to pay the fees in bank, which then send us the details. After verification of details, we issue the receipts. It takes a few days for the details to come in from the bank, subsequently pushing back the issuing of receipts," she said.

"The undertaking, on the other hand, is to maintain attendance and ensure there are no incidents of ragging. When students take admission in any college in a degree course, the university generates their permanent registration number, which remains till their last year and helps the university issue hall tickets easily. If students change college midway, it creates a problem for the university to issue hall tickets in the third year."
