The construction work of the new 12-metre long foot over bridge (FOB) at Parel station will be completed by March 31, informed the Central Railway.

The new Central Railway FOB at Parel is beside the Bailey Bridge that is being constructed by the Indian Army in the aftermath of the ghastly stampede which killed atleast 22 and injured many on 30 September, 2017.

On Sunday, the Central Railways blocked Parel for 7 hours to launch 9 girders which were 16-meters long. The block started at 8.30am and continued till 3.15, during which fast trains were diverted on slow lines between Matunga and Byculla.

"The quantum of work carried out at Parel is equivalent to what could have taken 45 hours," said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Central Railways.

The Central Railway is also constructing a new platform for Parel Terminus from where local trains will terminate.

As part of the new FOB, four escalators will be provided, two of which will have landing on the new platform and the two other will be on the east side of Parel station.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant has demanded that FOBs should be built at Parel, Currey Road, Reay Road and Sewri.

"They are constructing two separate FOBs at Currey Road which can be connected with a small skywalk," said MP Arvind Sawant. He also stated that he has asked the CR authorities to connect the existing bridge and platform with a skywalk at Cotton Green station.
